What Is the Right Age to Opt for LASIK?

Understanding age-related considerations for LASIK eligibility.

There is no single 'right age' for LASIK — but there are clear medical considerations at different life stages.

Under 18: LASIK is generally not recommended as the eyes are still developing and prescription is not stable.

18-21: LASIK is possible if the prescription has been stable for at least 12 months. Many defence aspirants undergo LASIK in this window.

21-40: the ideal LASIK window. Prescription is typically stable, cornea is healthy, and patients enjoy decades of benefit.

40-55: LASIK is still possible, but presbyopia (need for reading glasses) becomes a consideration. Monovision LASIK or refractive lens exchange may be discussed.

55+: if cataracts are forming, cataract surgery with premium IOLs may be a better refractive solution than LASIK.
