Indian Railways accept candidates who have undergone LASIK for many posts — including Ticket Collector, Goods Guard, Commercial Apprentice and ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) categories — subject to vision standards.
Key requirements: surgery must be at least 6 months old, post-operative vision should meet the standard for the post (typically 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in weaker eye for non-technical posts), no corneal ectasia or scarring, and stable refraction.
For sensitive posts such as Loco Pilot and Train Manager, requirements may be stricter and procedures preserving corneal strength (SMILE Pro, TransPRK) are preferred.
Aspirants should keep all pre and post-operative records — these are mandatory at the railway medical board.
