The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) — including CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB — have updated their vision standards to accept candidates who have undergone LASIK or refractive surgery, subject to specific medical criteria.
Eligibility requires that the surgery was performed at least 12 months before the medical examination, the candidate is at least 20 years of age at the time of surgery, post-operative vision is 6/6 in both eyes, and there is no evidence of corneal ectasia, scarring, or other complications.
A detailed pre-surgery prescription record, post-operative reports, and corneal topography are typically required at the medical board. Procedures such as SMILE Pro and TransPRK are particularly favoured as they preserve more corneal strength.
Aspirants planning a CAPF career should plan their LASIK surgery well in advance and choose a procedure that aligns with the long-term physical demands of paramilitary service.
