What is RLE?
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), also called Clear Lens Extraction, is a procedure in which the eye's natural lens is replaced with a premium intraocular lens (IOL) — even before a cataract has formed. It is essentially cataract surgery performed for refractive correction.
RLE is ideal for patients over 40 with high myopia, hyperopia, or early presbyopia who are not candidates for LASIK or ICL — offering permanent freedom from glasses and eliminating the future need for cataract surgery.
Ideal candidates
- Age 40 and above
- High hyperopia (+3D and above) or high myopia not suited for LASIK/ICL
- Early presbyopia — difficulty reading close-up
- Patients wanting permanent glasses freedom with no future cataract surgery
- Suitable for premium multifocal, EDOF, or trifocal IOLs
